Several procedures can be performed in rooms. If you require surgery this will usually be done at Burnside War Memorial Hospital.

In-rooms

  • Cervical screening
  • Colposcopy
  • Intrauterine Contraceptive Device (IUCD) Insertion / Replacement
  • Implantable Contraceptive Insertion / Replacement
  • Vaginal pessaries for prolapse
  • Transvaginal ultrasound
 

Before your in-hospital procedure

Please COMPLETE ADMISSION FORMS AT LEAST 10 DAYS PRIOR TO ADMISSION.

The online admission form may take between 5-15 minutes depending on your personal medical history.

Pre-Admission Online Form

Cease aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs (eg nurofen), fish oil and glucosamine 1 week before surgery (unless otherwise directed)

Fasting 6 hours pre-surgery (unless otherwise directed)

 

After your procedure

Laparoscopy
  • Expect spotting or light bleeding for a few days, up to a week
  • Expect generalised abdominal tenderness +/- shoulder tip pain for up to 1 week
  • Report any increasing pain or bleeding
  • No tampons or intercourse for 2 weeks (or until bleeding stops)
Suction Curettage for Miscarriage
  • Expect spotting or light bleeding for a few days, up to 2 weeks.
  • Report any increasing pain or bleeding
  • No tampons or intercourse for 2 weeks (or until bleeding stops)
Lletz Procedure
  • Expect spotting or light for a few days, up to 2 weeks
  • Report any increasing pain or bleeding
  • No tampons or intercourse for 4 weeks (or until bleeding stops)
Hysteroscopy (+/- dilation and curettage)
  • Expect spotting or light bleeding for a few days, up to a week
  • Report any increasing pain or bleeding
  • No tampons or intercourse for 2 weeks (or until bleeding stops)
